Custom Home FAQs
So, you’re ready to start the process of building a custom home, that’s exciting! The first thing we will do is get together and do some research on your style and preferences. We will go over some custom home design floor plans and layouts. Doing this will help get the ball rolling inside your head about what you like and what you’d love to see in your own home. It will also help to know what you don’t like.
Yes. At Picklo Homes we use an open cell foam insulation that seals the walls and the attic roof deck. This encloses the attic making it part of the living space which allows us to use smaller air conditioning units. We also use tankless water heaters which only heat water on an as-needed basis.
No. At Picklo Homes we provide General Liability, Workman’s Comp, and Builders Risk.
Of course! There will be many visits needed throughout the building process to ensure that you are getting exactly what you want all the way down to the smallest details. We want our customers to love their homes more than they ever dreamed possible and working closely together on the project is the best way to make sure that happens.
When it comes to building a custom home versus a regular home, the glaring differences are all in the details.
When building an average home, your choices are extremely limited. You may have 2-3 floor plans to choose from, as well as few options for materials and design.
When using a custom home builder, all options are available, affording you the ability to really dream big. Custom homes are where you get the ability to truly make your living environment your own every step of the way. From custom floor plans and special features to personalized spaces created just for you. Using a custom builder gives you a home, not just a house.
The cost of a custom home just depends on what you want. Between materials, appliances, square footage, and design, it all comes down to your preferences. Detailed conversations with your home builder and working closely throughout the project will help give you a sense of direction on pricing.
Generally speaking, it takes around 150-180 days from the day the foundation is poured to complete a custom home building project.
However, the timeline varies quite a bit depending on several factors. The square footage of your home, the level of custom craftsmanship required, as well as weather conditions can all affect your project’s timeline. To manage expectations, it helps to prepare for your project completion day to be a little later than originally projected. Doing this will help alleviate some of the stress and pressure.
Our process is pretty straight forward. Once we have a completed design, we will provide you with a proposal.
After the proposal is accepted a contract is given to you for signatures. Typically the next step is for you to bring both of those documents and the plans to your bank for financing. While the financing is being worked on, we will start the preliminary work. This includes permitting, engineering, setting up the utilities, etc. When financing is complete and the loan is closed we will schedule the site work and prepare for the foundation.
During this time we will provide you a vendor’s list to schedule and make selections for your home. We will meet and discuss various aspects of the home through the building process.
When the home is near completion we will work through our punch list and turn over the utilities into your name and prepare final documents with the bank for your final closing.
Once you take possession of the home, there will likely be some items that will come up in the first few weeks. Don’t worry these are normal. Contact us and we will schedule the right crews to remedy the issue.
Absolutely! Build on Your Lot Custom Homes are a great way to get exactly what you want out of your custom home, from start to finish.
